🌱 Helping Jersey Grow for 60 Years 🌱 At Ransoms, gardening isn’t just a business; it’s in our genes. As we celebrate our 60th anniversary this year, we’re taking a look back at the roots of our story—starting with a legacy grown at the world-renowned Kew Gardens. The seeds of our knowledge were sown across three generations of Kew graduates.
🌱 Start a century ago with Donald Ransom. Donald honed his craft at Kew, getting certified in 1925, before venturing from England to become the head gardener on the island of Herm. His journey eventually led him to Jersey’s own Samarès Manor, where he grew more than just plants—he grew a life, marrying Beryl Touzel and planting the Ransom family’s permanent stakes in local soil.
🌿 Donald`s passion was passed directly to his son, David Ransom. Following in his father’s footsteps, graduating from Kew. Eventually David returned to Jersey with a vision, laying the foundation for the Ransoms Garden Centre you know today.
🌳 The family legacy came full circle when David’s daughter, Rebecca, also graduated from Kew, ensuring that three generations of world-class knowledge would continue to flourish right here in Jersey. In 2002 Rebecca, along with her sister Katherine, takes over Ransoms Garden Centre from their parents.
✨ Share your Ransoms story ✨
We’ll be sharing more of our history every week for the coming months, but we want to hear from you. Do you have a favourite memory of the centre or old photos of Ransoms? We would love to see and share them! Share your photos in the comments below! 👇
