Till Operator

We have an immediate vacancy for a polite and friendly till operator to join our shop team.

This is a full-time permanent position based on a 37.5-hour week over 5 days in a great out of town location. The hourly pay rate for this position is £12.20. After successful completion of the 3-month probationary period you will be included in our monthly bonus scheme which equates to an extra £1 for every hour worked.

Applicants must have excellent spoken and written English and be outgoing and confident when speaking to customers.

Residency – 5 year residency required.

Summary

To process customer purchases through the tills in a fast efficient and friendly manner. To follow all agreed payment handling procedures and ensure that customers have managed to find everything they were looking for. To order, replenish and manage the stocks of sweets and ice-creams.  To work with the rest of the Team in making sure the shop is always clean and presented to the highest standards. To assist in checking off deliveries in the stores when required.  

Key Responsibilities

  • Processing Sales through the till – To process customer purchases through the till quickly and efficiently while interacting with our customers in a warm and friendly manner. To be knowledgeable about how the tills work, how to take payments, process discounts and offers and where necessary to process goods returns.
  • Deliveries – To arrange deliveries and collections when required, filling in the appropriate information on our systems and agreeing delivery arrangements with customers. To liaise with the warehouse team on any queries regarding deliveries.
  • Customer Service – to cover the Garden Centre’s Customer Service Desk assisting customers in person, by phone or by e-mail.
  • Stock Management – To assist the shop team with checking off incoming deliveries, putting stock out and rotating stock where required.

Skills and knowledge Required

  • Quick and accurate using touch screen devices such as a till.
  • Confident about approaching and talking to customers.
  • Ideally would have some retail experience but this is not essential.
  • Highly focused on providing Great Customer Service 
  • Numerate & accurate
  • Computer Literate (basic)

Ransom Garden Centre is a family business, in the heart of leafy St. Martin, established in 1966 by David and Janet Ransom. The business has grown significantly over the years and is now run by Katherine and Rebecca Ransom. 

We employ approximately 60 in the Garden Centre with an additional 25 in the Restaurant and The Potting Shed Gift Shop. 

Over the last 55 years the business has evolved significantly into a gardening and lifestyle destination retailer, and we are very proud of our knowledgeable team who continue to offer islanders exciting, quality product and great service.
