Operations Supervisor

We are looking for an organised, practical and approachable Operations Supervisor to help keep the Garden Centre running smoothly day to day. This is a varied, hands-on role where no two days are the same, perfect for someone who enjoys keeping things working behind the scenes.

Working directly with our Group Operations Manager, you will be supporting our teams with HR admin, health & safety, facilities management and IT coordination.

This role would suit someone with strong administrative and coordination skills, who is highly organised with excellent attention to detail, has good IT skills and who is confident when communicating with people internally or externally.

The basic working hours for this position are 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday but we also operate a flexi-time system.

Summary

The Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing key operational functions across the business, including HR administration, health & safety compliance, infrastructure management, IT liaison, and general administration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure & Facilities – Manage servicing and repairs of vehicles, forklifts, and equipment. Coordinate contractors including electricians, plumbers, gardeners, and other specialists. Oversee PAT testing, fixed wiring tests, and utility company liaison.
  • IT & Communications – Act as first point of contact for IT, EPOS, and telephone system support providers. Coordinate IT and POS issues across all our businesses.
  • Human Resources – Manage the full recruitment lifecycle, including advertising roles, candidate communications, interview coordination, job offers, and rejections. Coordinate onboarding of new starters, including system access, paperwork, uniforms, inductions, and health & safety training. Manage attendance and holiday administration, including clocking reviews, time sheets, Rota systems, and holiday records.
  • General Administration – Manage central resources including stationary, uniforms, and authorized infrastructure purchases. Coordinate catering, cleaning supplies, and contractor requirements. Arrange company travel, social events, and the annual Christmas party. Support ad-hoc administrative tasks as required.
  • Health & Safety – Act as key liaison with our external H&S consultants and statutory inspection bodies. Monitor and coordinate completion of daily, weekly, and monthly H&S checks across departments. Coordinate fire alarm tests, fire drills, emergency lighting checks, racking and site inspections.
  • Ransoms Group Support – Provide operational, IT, infrastructure, and project coordination support for associated business and property interests, including tenant liaison and contractor.

Skills and knowledge Required.

  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail. 
  • Strong and confident communication skills.
  • Previous experience in HR or facilities management would be an advantage.
  • Good IT skills and confidence with software and hardware
  • Ability to work on own initiative and under pressure.
  • Highly focused on delivering results.
